The annual Flower & Handicraft Show took place at Dilton Memorial Hall on Saturday 25th July, and what a fantastic success it was! A good selection of exhibits soon filled the hall and judging ran smoothly throughout the morning.

 

The doors opened to the public at 2pm and the hall quickly filled with villagers enjoying the impressive display of 171 exhibits, along with refreshments and plenty of friendly conversation. There were smiles all around as exhibitors proudly spotted well-earned certificates and celebrated their achievements.

 

It’s always a pleasure to step back and see the show come to life, with people admiring the hard work and creativity of others. From beautiful floral arrangements and home-grown vegetables to incredible handicrafts and delicious home baking, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

 

We were delighted to receive four group entries this year, with the theme of ‘Time to Party’ proving that when families and friends work together, they can create something truly special. Little Marshians Baby & Toddler Group entered a wonderful group display, alongside a collection of delightful paper plate animals. It was lovely to see the imagination and creativity of our youngest exhibitors.

 

Despite the exceptionally hot and dry weather, there was still a good number of entries in the fruit and vegetable classes, so congratulations to all of our green-fingered exhibitors.

 

The time, care and dedication that exhibitors put into preparing their entries is greatly appreciated. As many of us know from entering ourselves, creating exhibits can sometimes take hours of hard work, and we are grateful to everyone who took part.

 

Trophies were awarded to the exhibitors who achieved the highest number of points in each section of the show, so entering more classes certainly increases your chances of taking one home!

 

The winners of the trophies were: Jenny Denton, Ann Frisby, Ingrid Hart, Rosemary Jeynes, Rikki Achillini, Tess Brocksopp, Four Ply Knits for the group display class, and Zak for the under 16’s with the overall winner of the most points gained being Jenny Denton and for the first time we gave cash prizes to all 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed certificates. 

 

Congratulations to everyone who won a trophy, and to all those who proudly received one or more certificates.

 

Following the prize presentation, Mr Jones led our popular produce auction. Visitors, some very enthusiastically bid on a variety of vegetables, flowers, home-baked treats, a beautiful handmade summer door wreath, and a unique piece of wood-turned jewellery.

 

A huge thank you goes to everyone who supported this year’s show, our sponsors, exhibitors, judges and everyone who helped spread the word. Special thanks also go to Jocelyn Short for once again beautifully handwriting all of the certificates, and to our auctioneer, Mr Jones, for keeping the auction entertaining and enjoyable.

 

Finally, heartfelt thanks go to our committee members and volunteers, who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes since October to organise another successful event for the village.
