Please Pick Up After Your Dog

Published: 15 September 2025

Most dog owners do the right thing and clean up after their pets. Unfortunately, a minority are not as responsible — and this message is directed at them.

To encourage better behaviour, the Parish Council has put up more reminder signage around the village. You may have already seen some (see attached example).

If you’re one of the people not picking up after your dog, here are a few facts worth considering:

    •            Health risks to humans: Around 49% of dogs carry Campylobacter, a harmful bacterium found in their faeces. It can cause diarrhoea, stomach pain, and fever in humans — and can be especially dangerous for children, the elderly, or those with weakened immune systems.

    •            Parasitic infections: Dog waste can contain parasites such as tapeworms, hookworms, and roundworms. These can be passed to humans through contact with contaminated soil or faeces, often leading to stomach illness.

    •            Harm to livestock: Dog faeces can also pose serious risks to animals. Certain parasites can cause disease, abortions, or even death in sheep and other livestock.

There’s no excuse. The village has plenty of bins. If there isn’t a bin nearby, you can always take it home with you.

If you know of a location that could benefit from a sign please let us know.

Let’s keep our village safe, clean, and pleasant for everyone.

Bag it. Bin it. Every time.
