Parish Council Safety Reminder – Grass and Wildfire Risk
Published: 29 July 2026
Most grass and wildfires are caused by human activity. During periods of hot, dry weather, even a small spark can ignite dry grass and vegetation, allowing fires to spread rapidly.
Please help reduce the risk by:
* Never discarding lit cigarettes on the ground or throwing them from a vehicle.
* Never leaving barbecues, bonfires or campfires unattended, and ensuring they are fully extinguished before leaving.
* Taking all litter home, especially glass bottles, as sunlight shining through clear glass can generate enough heat to ignite dry vegetation.
By taking a few simple precautions, we can all help protect our countryside, wildlife, homes, and emergency services.
Please stay vigilant and report any signs of fire immediately by calling 999.
Thank you
